About Dharini Rangasamy
Dharini Rangasamy is the director of Rangasamy Attorneys Inc. and an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa.
She holds an LLB (cum laude) and an LLM in Medical Law (summa cum laude) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Her practice is broad-based, with particular experience in strategic civil litigation, commercial law, medical law, labour law, contract & policy drafting and alternative dispute resolution. She advises individuals, families and businesses across a range of legal matters, with an emphasis on careful analysis, clear strategy and practical outcomes.
Dharini is also an accredited mediator and regularly considers negotiation and alternative dispute resolution alongside litigation when determining the most effective way to resolve a matter.
Her approach is grounded in rigorous legal analysis, commercial awareness and a commitment to ensuring that clients understand both their legal position and the strategy being pursued on their behalf.

What’s in a Name?
– A note from Dharini
This story starts as most unforgettable ones do: a boy and girl fall in love.
He was a hardworking young man from Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, India. She came from a higher caste. Their families disapproved, but love doesn’t always follow the rules. They married anyway and dreamt of building a life together, somewhere new, somewhere full of possibility.
With their infant daughter in their arms, they boarded the Umfuli off the coast of Madras as indentured labourers bound for the sugarcane plantations of Natal. They reached their new home in May 1908.
The couple went on to have two more children. Then tragedy struck. The roof of their home collapsed, killing the young wife and leaving her husband widowed with three small children in a foreign land. In time, he found love again and remarried. They would go on to have seven more children, raising all ten with love, grit and resilience.
The man at the heart of this story was named Rangasamy. He is my great-grandfather.
I grew up hearing about Rangasamy – his hard work, his courage, his forward-thinking nature, his will for a better life for his descendants. And now, more than a century after his arrival in South Africa, his name sits proudly on the door of a law firm founded on the same determination that carried him across an ocean.
